Haitian Konpa was the sound of the home I grew up in. It is the music of my childhood, my memories and part of who I am.
Today, through TimTim.Live, I am taking that rhythm with me on a musical journey around the world — creating songs inspired by countries, cities, towns, villages, people and places I have visited, places I have learned about, and places I still dream of discovering someday.
I am still learning about Strathearn, and I hope to see it with my own eyes someday.
But I want something to be very clear:
I do not come pretending that Konpa is the traditional music of Strathearn. This is simply my musical greeting to a place I want to honor.
I am sharing the music I grew up with as a musical greeting from my home to yours.
From Haiti… and now my hometown of Washington, DC, USA… to wherever you call home.
Music does not need a passport.
A rhythm does not stop when it reaches a border. You do not have to speak the same language. You do not have to come from the same country. You don’t even have to understand every word.
Music asks only one question:
Will you listen?
And if you hear a Haitian Konpa beat carrying the name or memory of a place close to your heart, I hope it makes you smile.
