Its nearest neighbours are Khankendi (1.8 km), Karkijahan (3.6 km), and Shusha (8.1 km). It was established in 1991.

I grew up with the sound of Haitian Konpa. It is the music of my childhood, my memories and part of who I am.

Today, through TimTim.Live, I am taking that rhythm with me on a musical journey around the world — creating songs inspired by countries, cities, towns, villages, people and places I have visited, places I have learned about, and places I still dream of discovering someday.

I am still learning about Khojaly, and I hope to see it with my own eyes someday.

But I want something to be very clear:

This song is not meant to define the culture of Khojaly. Its own artists and traditions tell that story better than I ever could.

I am sharing the music I grew up with as a musical greeting from my home to yours.

From Haiti… and now my hometown of Washington, DC, USA… to wherever you call home.

A melody does not ask what country is printed on your passport. You do not have to speak the same language. You do not have to come from the same country. You don’t even have to understand every word.

And if you hear a Haitian Konpa beat carrying the name or memory of a place close to your heart, I hope it makes you smile.

And for those of us living far from the places where we grew up, I hope that for a few minutes… home feels a little closer.
