The largest are Amphoe Mueang Chiang Mai (346,746), Amphoe Fang (116,263), and Amphoe San Sai (113,285). It lies 17 km north-west of Mae Wang. Its nearest neighbours are Mae Wang (17 km), Samoeng (21 km), and San Pa Tong (29 km).
