It contains 20 districts and 15 towns with a combined population of about 14,639. The largest are Sört (4,700), Hutag (4,591), and Sharga (3,048). Its nearest neighbours are Erdenet (43 km), Jargalant (66 km), and Jargalant (68 km). It was established in 1938.
