The largest are Obshtina Blagoevgrad (75,329), Obshtina Petrich (49,530), and Obshtina Sandanski (37,400). It lies 12 km south of Bansko. Its nearest neighbours are Bansko (12 km), Razlog (17 km), and Polenitsa (22 km).
