Reggae took shape in Jamaica in the late 1960s, after ska and rocksteady.
In the 1970s, artists such as Bob Marley and the Wailers carried reggae around the world. In 2018, UNESCO added the reggae music of Jamaica to its list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
